Hosta - Sum and Substance

A great choice for any beginner gardener. The lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known for their flowers. ‘Sum and Substance’ was named Hosta of the Year in 2004, and one can see why. The flowers are on 50” scapes, making it one of a kind. This Hosta is slug resistant and a vigorous grower. ‘Sum and Substance’ does require some sun to enhance its golden color. The Hosta Sum and Substance, 'Hosta', has large, rounded leaves with heavy puckering. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and is one of the most popular landscapeplants. With a plant height of 36” and a spread of 60”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Yarrow - Yellow The Yarrow Anthea, 'Achillea millefolium', a Blooms of Bressingham plant, is an upright yellow flowered Yarrow that blooms from June through September, providing excellent color throughout the summer months. With fern-like aromatic, silvery to gray-green foliage, it is considered to be one of the best yarrows in any landscape. The foliage has a somewhat strong, spicy aroma, which persists when used in dried arrangements. The flower heads are 3-4” wide, with a spread of 12-18” and a height of 2-3’. ‘Anthea’ has good texture and form and looks great in mass plantings and cottage gardens and is more vigorous and heat tolerant than Achillea ‘Moonshine’. (Avoid heavy clays and moist, rich, fertile soils. ) Yarrow should be planted in full sun and is tolerant of hot humid summers. For an attraction to butterflies, deer and rabbit resistant, one can’t go wrong with this plant.
